Ricardo Barreto graduated from the Sao Paulo Faculty of Fine Arts and gained a degree in Philosophy from the University of Sao Paulo. He has experimented with different media since the 1980s. At the end of the 1990s, he and Paula Perissinotto decided to dedicate themselves to the Internet, both as artists and event managers: in 1998 they launched the site Satmundi, and they have organized the Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrônica (the International Electronic Language Festival, FILE) since 2000. Their output includes designs for interactive CDROMs, virtual reality, and net art.
